Highlight

Highlight is a full-stack observability platform and monitoring system that aggregates logs, errors, and distributed traces to provide a unified view of application health. It functions as a distributed tracing system, an error monitoring service, and a session replay tool.

The platform is available as a dockerized monitoring stack for self-hosted deployments on Linux. It distinguishes itself by combining backend observability with a visual recording system that captures document object model changes and network requests to replay user interactions.

The system covers several core capability areas, including centralized log management with searchable properties, application error tracking with source map integration for stack trace deobfuscation, and distributed request tracing across microservices. It also includes database monitoring via named query execution and search query parsing for retrieving performance metrics.

Installation can be performed via self-hosted monitoring deployment using Docker or through cloud infrastructure provisioning.

Features

  • Distributed Tracing Systems - Provides a system to capture and visualize request lifecycles as they traverse microservices.
  • Session Replay - Records and replays browser-based user sessions to reproduce frontend bugs.
  • DOM Mutation Tracking - Records and tracks real-time DOM mutations to visually reconstruct user interactions.
  • Error Tracking and Exception Handling - Captures and analyzes runtime application exceptions and crashes to facilitate rapid debugging.
  • Centralized Logging Systems - Provides a system for aggregating, storing, and managing server-side logs from distributed components.
  • Error Tracking - Provides a system for capturing and analyzing runtime exceptions and crashes across frontend and backend environments.
  • Error Tracking Services - Aggregates and alerts on software exceptions, correlating backend failures with frontend requests.
  • Observability Platforms - Aggregates logs, errors, and distributed traces to provide a unified view of application health.
  • Distributed Tracing - Tracks requests across distributed systems using unique identifiers to analyze execution flow.
  • Log Aggregation Pipelines - Ships an infrastructure for collecting, indexing, and analyzing server-side logs with searchable properties and performance alerts.
  • Request Correlation - Generates unique correlation identifiers to link requests across multiple microservices.
  • User Session Replays - Captures browser interactions and DOM mutations to visually replay user sessions for debugging frontend issues.
  • Distributed Request Tracing - Captures timing and processing data to trace requests as they move through various microservices.
  • Observability Tooling - Tracks errors, logs, and performance across both frontend and backend in a single platform.
  • Log Indexing Systems - Implements a high-volume log indexing system using ClickHouse for fast analytical queries.
  • Source Map Uploads - Implements a build-pipeline mechanism to upload mapping files for translating minified stack traces into readable source code.
  • Full-Stack Orchestration - Packages the full monitoring stack, including backend and database, into coordinated Docker containers.
  • Self-Hosted Deployments - Offers a full-stack monitoring system designed for self-hosted deployment on Linux via Docker.
  • Docker Deployments - Ships a monitoring suite deployed via Docker Compose for self-hosted observability.
  • Source Map Deobfuscators - Provides utilities to map minified production stack traces back to original source code via source maps.
  • Infrastructure and Monitoring - Session replay and error monitoring for web apps.
  • Observability and Monitoring - Full-stack monitoring including error tracking and session replay.
  • Monitoring and Observability - Full-stack platform for monitoring application performance.
