Scribbletune

Scribbletune is a JavaScript music composition library, MIDI file generator, text-based patch diagrammer, and Web Audio API sequencer. It enables the definition of rhythms, chords, and melodies using string-based notation for real-time playback in web browsers.

The system transforms simple text notation into SVG visual representations of modular synthesizer signal paths. It also converts programmatically composed musical clips and patterns into standard MIDI files for use in external digital audio workstations.

Composition capabilities include a character-based rhythmic notation system for precise timing, as well as tools for algorithmic melody and riff generation. The library supports harmonic theory utilities such as Roman numeral chord resolution and arpeggio generation, alongside a session-based channel architecture for triggering synthesizers and audio samples.

Features

  • Algorithmic Music Composition - Provides a framework for writing and arranging musical compositions using JavaScript code and algorithms.
  • Musical Clip Containers - Provides a way to organize notes and rhythmic patterns into clips that serve as song foundations.
  • Web Audio API Sound Engines - Implements a sequencer using the Web Audio API to trigger audio samples and synthesizers in real-time.
  • Audio Playback - Enables the triggering of synthesizers and audio samples directly in the web browser.
  • Audio Sample Playback - Triggers synthesizers and audio samples in real-time within a browser-based session architecture.
  • Musical Sequence Generators - Implements toolkits for generating rhythmic and melodic structures using string and array notations.
  • Audio Synthesis - Implements real-time audio synthesis using the Web Audio API to trigger sounds in the browser.
  • Music Composition Libraries - Provides a JavaScript library for defining rhythms, chords, and melodies via string-based notation.
  • Rhythmic String Notation - Uses a specialized character-based notation system to define precise timing and note triggers.
  • Rhythmic String Notations - Provides a character-based rhythmic notation system for precise timing and note triggers.
  • Chord and Arpeggio Generators - Transforms chord progressions into sequenced arpeggios with customizable note orders.
  • Algorithmic Pattern Generators - Uses algorithmic patterns to automatically generate musical riffs, arpeggios, and sequences.
  • Key-Based Chord Generation - Builds chord sequences using Roman numeral resolution against specific musical keys.
  • MIDI File Generators - Converts programmatically composed musical clips and patterns into standard MIDI files.
  • MIDI Sequencing - Serializes internal musical representations into binary MIDI files for use in external workstations.
  • Modular Synth Visualizations - Transforms text descriptions of modular synthesizer signal paths into SVG vector graphics.
  • Scale Sequence Generation - Generates melodic sequences filtered through mathematical scale constraints and root-note offsets.
  • Visual Patch Diagrams - Generates SVG diagrams of modular synthesizer signal paths and layouts from text notation.
  • Text-to-SVG Generators - Transforms structured text descriptions of modular signal paths into SVG vector graphics.
  • Modular Patch Diagrams - Transforms simple text notation into SVG visual representations of modular synthesizer signal paths.
  • MIDI Transcription Exporters - Exports programmatically composed musical sequences as standard MIDI files for external DAW use.
  • Harmonic Roman Numeral Analysis - Translates Roman numeral harmonic notation into specific note frequencies based on a root and scale.
