Timeshift

Timeshift ist ein Linux-Systemwiederherstellungstool, das inkrementelle Snapshots des Dateisystems erstellt, um ein Betriebssystem auf einen früheren Zustand zurückzusetzen. Es fungiert als automatisierter Backup-Planer und Systemwiederherstellungs-Dienstprogramm und nutzt entweder BTRFS-atomare Snapshots für eine nahezu sofortige Wiederherstellung oder einen rsync-basierten Manager zur Erstellung effizienter inkrementeller Kopien von Systemdateien und Einstellungen.

Das Tool bietet Funktionen für die automatisierte Backup-Planung und Rotation in stündlichen, täglichen, wöchentlichen oder monatlichen Intervallen sowie bei jedem Systemstart. Es verwaltet die Backup-Aufbewahrung, um die Anzahl der gespeicherten historischen Versionen zu kontrollieren, und unterstützt einen Disaster-Recovery-Workflow, der die Wiederherstellung des Systemzustands von einem laufenden System oder einem Live-Boot-Medium aus ermöglicht.

Zusätzliche Funktionen umfassen die Neukonfiguration des Bootloaders, um sicherzustellen, dass der Kernel den wiederhergestellten Zustand lädt, sowie die Möglichkeit zur distributionsübergreifenden Wiederherstellung. Das System unterstützt zudem die Ausführung benutzerdefinierter Shell-Skripte nach einem Wiederherstellungsvorgang, um abschließende Systemanpassungen vorzunehmen.
